Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen Final Weekend for 2011

Santa at Mrs. Claus' Kitchen

Saturday and Sunday will be your last opportunity to get a live-drawn caricature from me in public. At least for this year.

Unless I get a really good offer for New Year’s.

I will be at Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen on Saturday, November 17 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. or so. and Sunday from about 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen lets you either buy or take your own pictures of your kids with Santa, and has tables for special holiday crafts, letters for Santa and U.S. soldiers, sometimes a balloon artist and/or face painter, and of course, yours truly, doing caricatures. Past weeks and years have also featured local storytellers. I don’t believe there will be a storyteller this weekend, though.

Money from the photos for Santa benefit the organization Light Up Lorain, which is responsible for the Christmas lighting and decorations you see around Downtown Lorain. They are also responsible for putting on Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen. They’ve been at it for three years now, and this year has been the best. They’re a good group that deserves your support.

As for what I’m doing… If you want to surprise someone with an incredibly thoughtful, and cheap, gift, bring their photo down, or a photo of their pet, whatever and I’ll whip something up on the spot for you.

Otherwise, if I don’t see you there, have a great holiday season.

That Stupid Podcast Begins

The first episode of That Stupid Podcast is up and ready to download at http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/92326 . It’s 20 minutes and it’s funny, but thoughtful.

I’m the host, so expect to see the occasional news bit about it here on MikeTheArtGuy.com. It sets the ground rules of the show and defines stupidity, for the benefit of listeners, contributors, and other innocent bystanders. Give it a chance and see if you like it. You can send any thoughts or criticisms to ThatStupidPodcast@gmail.com.

Also, if you’re on Facebook, you can visit the That Stupid Podcast Page, which is at http://www.facebook.com/pages/That-Stupid-Podcast/188666824479897?v=wall. I will put up discussion threads, news about upcoming topics, and other goodies. Please join up.

The next episode is being recorded Tuesday morning and will be uploaded to the Talkshoe site for listening Wednesday at noon, Eastern.

Website Updates

If you have occassion to visit this website, you’ll see some updates and changes. First of all, the color scheme. I really don’t have favorite colors anymore, but I do have a bit of a fondness for deep purple and gold.

You’ll also see I’ve posted links to my other current projects in the left hand sidebar, along with an archive widget, so that you can visit old news and entries a bit easier.

I’ve also made, what seems like, a million little cosmetic and other changes to make your visit a bit better. But I’m not done yet. I will be try to spend some time each day doing updates, making the site more interesting and something worth visiting at least once a week.

Back to work.

All New Classes Added

I’ve taken some time to update the Classes/Programs page. I’ve added a few classes, clarified some descriptions, changed all of the page titles taking out the word “description”, and basically cleaned this section up in anticipation of booking summer classes.

I hope you’ll take a look. And keep in mind, most of the classes are available for private tutoring sessions, too.

Upcoming Projects

Yesterday, I told you about upcoming classes and appearances.

Today, we’ll look at upcoming projects from Mike the art guy!

First up, May 1st will see the first installment a new webcomic project that I’m starting. I’ve been threatening to do a webcomic for years now. After several failed attempts, I’ve finally picked an arbitrary date and said this is it! I won’t go into a lot of detail here, lest someone feel compelled to steal an idea or two, but the comic should be a lot fun for both the reader and for yours truly.

This extra secret comic should run either 2 or 3 days a week. I need to produce some pages first, to see how I can work it.

Next, I will be producing a second podcast. Yesterday, I was listening to Logan’s Run podcast on Talkshoe.com, and apparently this version of it is an encore. Encore meaning re-run. I loved the idea so much that I stole it, but with some modifications. Instead of re-running whole episodes of Open Mike, Insert Foot, I’ll be doing a “best of/worst of” (your milage may vary) format. That will spare the listeners from having to live or re-live the dated material and other embarrassing dreck from the past. And if I can wing it, I will stick in additional commentary myself and from other people who may have been involved in the show. DVD extras!

I haven’t pinned down a launch date yet, but I’d like to get that going before May 15.

And last, but not least, some time this week, the new Sandstone Summer Theater site should be going up. I don’t do much website work anymore, but I wanted to contribute something to my favorite theater group. Hopefully it will be a smashing success.

And of course, I’m always working on new artwork, notecards, prints, commission work and other projects. More about those projects later.

Quick Shots for Monday, January 18, 2010

*Last night’s Bonanzle sale was a total bust.

I am in the process of selling off my comics and related merch on Bonanzle, and last night I had a special sale, which Bonanzle.com calls a Bonanza, where they promote the hell out of your sale for one to three hours. No one showed up to my booth. FAIL! Guess I’m going to have to rethink that strategy.

*This weekend’s gig at Mill Hollow was mild, muddy, but fun, nevertheless. Got to play with Kodie, the one-eyed Siberian Husky sled dog and made some money. Good times.

*Happy Birthday to Main Street Amherst’s very own Teresa Gilles. Hope it’s a good one!

*If Haiti wasn’t bad enough, the Red Cross needs money and blood for locals who are in peril. RedCross.org.

*Speaking of peril, does anyone know what’s happening now the the building that was to hold the West Side Children’s Museum burned down? There’s nothing on the website about it. There is to be a money raiser Friday, but I don’t know if that’s still on or what.

More art and stuff tomorrow.

Have a good one.

The Red Cross Chocolate Festival

I will be here tomorrow. It’s the Lorain County Red Cross Chocolate Festival, which is an annual event where businesses and organizations in Lorain County get a table, give out chocolates and promote their stuff.

I will be promoting my business, doing caricatures and drawings, and giving out chocolate. I will also have a 100 dollar item in the silent auction.

I hope you’ll be there.
